If someone lacks a sense of meaning or purpose in life it could contribute to the likelihood of developing depression or anxiety. It’s the sense of meaning and purpose in life that help us to shape our goals and decision-making.
Just like any other mental health issues, it is best to talk to a mental health professional such as a counsellor.
On a side note – sorry to jump in – there’s some interesting research into how purpose is related to general wellbeing and a lot of work in occupational/business psychology on purpose (the better your sense of purpose, the better employees work and the more efficient an organisation is)
