Hi Sam – my work focuses on understanding the ways in which poor mental health is experienced and some of the psychological factors which influence our mental health. I hope to improve how we treat some of the common mental health problems people experience by better understanding the factors which make our mental health better/worse – by identifying what makes things worse/better we can focus on these things in therapy (e.g. CBT). I’m also keen to reduce the stigma around mental health experiences by challenging some of the ideas out there, e.g. that mental health issues are ‘abnormal’. I would argue that it is normal to experience changing mental health and that many mental health ‘problems’ can be experienced by anyone (e.g. hearing a voice that in reality is not there). So I hope that my research helps us to better understand people’s experiences and inform ways of helping people live well with severe conditions. Great question, thanks Sam!

I created a blog about psychology, mental health and well-being. As a blogger, my aim is to inspire conversation about these areas.
These conversations play a crucial role in helping people deal with their mental health.
