Sometimes when I have to do a lot of something over a long period time, it can get quite tedious! Like when I have lots of data analysis to do… or a big document to write! Actually, writing is something which I often find a struggle! Sometimes it’s quite hard to motivate myself to begin writing!

That I work from home. And also that I travel a lot. I also like it because I love designing websites.

Feeling like I have helped someone and made a difference to someone’s life, it’s a very rewarding job. I also really enjoy visiting different workplaces and finding out about people’s jobs.

The variety of what I do and having freedom as an academic to develop my own research ideas and hypotheses, test them and answer these questions. It’s a very nice feeling when you see your work published and other academics read and cite your work! I also really enjoy working with students and other researchers to develop their research questions and I have really enjoyed setting up our research centre at Staffs, developing training sessions, helping others with their research especially when things don’t always go to plan!

I have a lot of freedom in what research questions I would like to figure out, and it’s fun to think of ways to investigate topics. So my favourite would be the ‘ideas’ part.

I like that my job is quite varied – no two days are the same – and for the most part I have the freedom to manage my own time. Obviously I need to attend lectures, other classes, and meetings, but beyond that I can decide what to focus my attention on. I do have freedom to research what I want (within reason and money constraints), although I don’t tend to get much time while students are here to do research!
