That’s a great question Harry – I don’t think that there is one specific part of the brain where our mental health is located. There may be specific parts or structures of the brain which could determine some aspects of our mental health, or it could be how our brains function/work which is important (not the structures themselves but how regions of the brain communicate with one another). There some specific neurotransmitters (chemical messagers in the brain) which are associated with some specific mental health experiences. I’m not that convinced that our mental health is purely determined by our biology though, I think it’s a combination of bio-psychological-social factors. I don’t tend to look too much into the brain-based nature of mental in my work as I’m more interested in the psychological (or ‘mind’) side of mental health.
